With over 30 years of experience in various Information Technology roles within the California state government, including three years as a Chief Information Officer and seven years as Associate Secretary and Agency Information Officer, George brings unparalleled expertise to the table.
George is a seasoned professional dedicated to serving the State of California and its citizens. In September 2016, he was selected as the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency's Information Officer (AIO), a cabinet-level position overseeing a $1.6 billion IT portfolio across the Agency’s seven departments.
As AIO, George served as the principal adviser to the Agency's Under Secretary and Secretary, providing strategic guidance on optimizing IT investments to enhance state government services. He coordinated and advised the Agency's seven department directors, board chairs, and senior leadership on IT systems and information management. Additionally, he was an active member of the IT Executive Council, the state’s highest-level IT governing body, collaborating with control agencies to provide executive leadership on statewide IT policy development and oversight for technology governance and compliance.
Prior to his role as AIO, George served as Deputy Director and Chief Information Officer for the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. In this capacity, he was a key member of the directorate, leading IT strategic, tactical, and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of IT systems across the Department.
Throughout his career, George has held various technical and leadership roles within eight different California government organizations. His extensive experience encompasses the planning, development, delivery, operations, and monitoring of technical solutions tailored to meet the needs of the state departments he has served.
George holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of San Francisco. Additionally, he has completed a range of professional, technical, and leadership training and certificate courses, continually expanding his expertise in IT and leadership. He is dedicated to leveraging his executive skills and experience to enhance the delivery of state government services and support through technology innovations meeting the needs of California's citizens.
